WEAR THE LEGACY
"A POPE FOR THE PEOPLE"
Born Robert Prevost in Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood, Pope Leo XIV's maternal roots trace back domestically to New Orleans' 7th Ward, where his grandparents were part of the vibrant and culturally complex Creole community. Who Dat Pope honors this groundbreaking moment with apparel that celebrates Black excellence, Black Catholic faith, and New Orleans culture.
"More Than Just History"
"Pope Leo XIV's story is America's story. His maternal grandparents, Joseph and Louise Martinez, lived in New Orleans' 7th Ward in the 1900s, listed as Black in census records. Like many families during the Great Migration, they moved north to Chicago seeking opportunity and dignity. Now their descendant leads 1.4 billion Catholics worldwide, showing that our beautiful diversity of heritage and hue is exactly what makes the Church - and the world - stronger."

"Afro-Carribean & Creole Heritage, Global Impact"
The 7th Ward has always been a melting pot of African, French, Spanish, and Caribbean cultures. Pope Leo XIV's maternal family embodies this beautiful complexity - descendants of 'free people of color' who helped build New Orleans' unique Black Catholic tradition. From Congo Square to St. Peter's Square, Black culture now sits at the highest levels of the Catholic Church. Who Dat Pope is our way of sharing that pride with you so you can share it with the world.
